Australia’s most distinctive reds

What better way to spend a cold foggy weekend in San Francisco than watching movies, movies and more movies! The weekend consist of catching the opening night of Matt Damon’s new movie “Elysium” (and you thought we had immigration issues!) at the Kabuki and catching up on our backlog of Netflix movies at home – Single Man by Tom Ford and Life of Pi. Relaxing at home with movies and home cooked dinner is certainly overdue after long weekends away from home these past few weekends. I’ve been thinking about the delicious sole at Sam’s Restaurant (Kearny/Sutter Street) so tried to mimic this at home.

Menu: Sole Dore , Roasted Brussels Sprouts, Parmesan Cous-Couse and Fried Artichoke.
Wine: Clarendon Hill Kangarilla Vineyard Grenache 2001. Clarendon Hills makes some of Australia’s most distinctive reds. The nose has a murky garnet clarity color with a medium non-intensity color, faint legs. The nose had an earthy spice aromas with a distinct nose of blackberry. The flavors had a bright tangy cherry, mineral and chocolate flavors that last beautifully on the velvety finish. It picks up hints of mint and pepper as the finish goes on and on. The bold tannins have a strong grip; which helped this 12-yr old survive gracefully! Second night sipping this wine and it’s roaring from the glass.
