Our neighbors, Aldo and Barby (who saddly had laryngitis but still perky), stopped by for a fun game of cards of “May I?!” We whipped together a simple bucatini with spicy anchovy sauce and dill bread crumb, fresh fava beans with infused jalapeno and lemon oil, and roasted cauliflower and enjoyed the following wines:
- Schloss Schonborn Estate 2010 Rheingau Germany Riesling – 11% alcohol which is a perfect sipping wine. Great value for $16 at K&L. I’m running to get more this weekend!!
- Jacuzzi Carneros 2010 Tocai Friulano – We’re members of Jacuzzi wine club but I think it’s making it to the chopping block of clubs to drop!
- Hartford“Dina’s Vineyard” Russian River 2004 Zinfandel – We picked up this bottle while tasting at their winery in 2006. It was exquisite then and absolute perfection now!
- Royal “5 Puttonyos Asuzu” Hungray 2007 Tokaji – Aldo brought this bottle to share with us. It was a nice silky dessert wine with a polished balance flavor of nutmeg, oak and caramel!
Three hours of cards and four bottles later — I placed 3rd in our card game “May I?” but overall it was a fabulous night!
