Springtime Sky – Lunar Eclipse

The sun, the moon and the planet Venus will be staging shows during the next two weeks with three astronomical events in the springtime sky – solar eclipse, lunar eclipse and the sun transit!

The partial solar eclipse began at 5:15pm when the new moon moves slowly across the sun’s face and blocks most of it.   Our friends Joe and Carye invited use over for wine and moon gazing on top of their Pacific Heights rooftop.  We’re glad to catch the peak of the eclipse and safely viewed this rare event through Joe’s welding shields!

After viewing the eclipse, we basically raided Joe and Carye’s wine cellar!! Carye served a nice selection of cheeses and spreads and made an amazing batch of zucchini cakes that were to-die-for!! We enjoyed the evening with their neighbor, Julie, and Joe’s college friend Lisa (Master of Sommelier, blogger and a superwoman).  It was a very lively evening, sipping on Chardonnays, Zinfandels, Cabernet Franc, and Muscats!!  My favorite of the evening was the Cakebread Chardonnay and Jarvis Cabernet Sauvignon!
